INTRODUCTION: Tonight I want to talk with you for a few minutes a "What Is In A Name" and the importance of your name.

Proverbs 22: 1 - "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold."

I. THE NAME OF GOD:

Psalm 96:8 - "Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts."

Psalm 99:3 - "Let them praise thy great and terrible name; for it is holy.

Psalm 105:3 - "Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD."

Psalm 111:9 - "He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name."

Psalm 148:13 - "Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven."        

II. THE NAME OF JESUS:

Matthew 1 :23-25 - "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. [24] Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: [25] And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS."

Luke 1 :49 - "For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name." Hebrews 1:4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by  inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they."

Acts 4:10 - "Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole."

1Peter 4: 11 - "If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any  man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God  in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen."

Acts 5 :41 - "And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name."

 III. YOUR NAME:

Proverbs 22:1 "A GOOD name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold."

Ecclesiastes 7: 1 - "A good name is better than precious  ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth."

What value do you put on your name?  Is it Liar, cheat, foul mouth, self-seeker, flirt, or tease? How many want to be named Jezebel or Judas? What if some one called you by the name of the girl that just stole your boy friend? Boy stole your girl friend?

IV. THE IMPORTANCE OF A NAME IN JUDGMENT:

Acts 11 :26 - "And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch."

1Peter 4: 16 - "Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf."

Philippians 4:3 - "And I entreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow labourers, whose names are in the book of life."

Revelation 20: 15 - "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."

Revelation 3: 5 - "He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels."

V. THINGS FOUND OR SAID TO BE IN A NAME:

Matthew 21:9  ^{- "}And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest."

Matthew 28:19  ^{- "}Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:"

Acts 2:38 - "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

John 3:18  ^{- "}He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

Acts 4:11-12 - "This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

1Corinthians 5:4  In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

1Corinthians 6:11  And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Colossians 3:17  And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

2 Thessalonians 3:6  Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.
